Grand Outlet Riviera Maya welcomes Latin America's largest Olympic-sized ice rink, adding a fresh dimension to Cancún's tourist attractions
Cancún is set to offer a new and exciting experience starting August 1st with the opening of Happi Arena, an Olympic-sized ice skating rink considered the largest in Latin America and the first of its kind in Mexico.
Located in the Grand Outlet Riviera Maya, south of the city, this rink features a 1,800 square meter surface, with a capacity for 150 skaters and seating for 400 spectators.
The rink's opening will add a new entertainment option for both tourists and residents, as well as for NHL professional teams during their preseason.
"It's a new era for Cancún, transforming it into a destination for ice sports, beyond just sun and beach," highlighted Jesús Alcántara Rodríguez, founder of the Mexico Warriors Ice Hockey Club and promoter of this initiative.
At the presentation of the new attraction, Jesús Alcántara was joined by Vladimir Mayllen Vera from Grand Outlet Riviera Maya and Alejandro Luna, Director of the Municipal Sports Institute. With a $5 million investment, the rink is expected to attract 60,000 annual visitors from Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
During a press conference, it was emphasized that this sports facility will add a new dimension to the local tourism and sports landscape, supported by USA Hockey and the creation of a collegiate hockey league.
In addition to hockey, the rink will host figure skating, curling, and para hockey. The formal inauguration is scheduled for September this year, with an international hockey game featuring the Mexico Warriors Ice Hockey Club, according to Jesús Alcántara.
Alejandro Luna highlighted that this rink will integrate hockey into the 38 sports disciplines practiced in the city and mentioned the possibility of forming a local team.
Alcántara Rodríguez explained that there are two types of ice rinks: professional and Olympic. The Cancún rink, measuring 60 meters long by 30 meters wide, fits the Olympic category, a dream that began to take shape in 2018.
The rink will be open Monday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with an additional experience on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:15 PM to 11:00 PM called Disco Night's, featuring retro music and robotic light shows, transforming it into a dance floor.
The entrance fee for residents of Quintana Roo will be 450 pesos, not including skate rental, which costs 100 pesos, with unlimited access.
