The Institute of Culture and Arts, along with the Association of Oaxacans "Unidos Benito Juárez A.C.", has announced the Guelaguetza 2024 celebration in Cancún. This event, which highlights the rich cultural heritage of Oaxaca, will be held from August 2nd to 4th at Plaza de la Reforma and Parque de las Palapas, starting at 5 PM.
The Guelaguetza is a prominent festival of Oaxaca that celebrates the cultural diversity and traditions of its various communities. This event symbolizes community unity and collaboration, featuring shared dances, music, crafts, and cuisine.
The celebration will include a variety of activities, such as a fair, calenda (traditional parade), cultural performances, and an artisanal and gastronomic corridor. Attendees will enjoy performances by the Children and Youth Philharmonic Band of Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán and the Tlaxiaco Folk Dance Company, both from Oaxaca, showcasing the richness and diversity of Oaxacan traditions.
The primary goal of bringing the Guelaguetza to Cancún is to promote cultural exchange and strengthen community identity through the celebration of our traditions. This event aims to create a space where Cancún residents and visitors can enjoy and learn about Oaxaca's rich cultural heritage, fostering respect and appreciation for our roots.
